Boss phases

Meadowvale hilltop, Afternoon, Breezy. Wind drift appears in the arc preview on Easy and Normal. Bunting flags at the field edges show the wind direction.

  1. "Here Comes Bruno" (100–60%). Walks forward. Every 8 s he uses Ground Slam. Telegraph: he raises his tree-trunk club with a red "!" over his head, and a dust ring expands on the ground (1.0 s). Effect: a shockwave rolls 300 px forward (toward the wall), knocking back and stunning marching units for 1 s. Grunt and scamp escorts arrive in groups of 3 every 10 s.
  2. "Goblin Toss" (60–25%). He stops at 700 px and pulls goblins out of the bucket on his back. Telegraph: the goblin in his hand waves nervously and a dotted landing arc shows (1.2 s). Effect: the thrown grunt or scamp lands 250 px from the wall (bypassing units) as a normal enemy. An arrow that hits the goblin mid-air poofs it for +2 bonus gold (a skill moment). He also keeps slamming, every 10 s.
  3. "Tantrum" (under 25%). His hat flies off, he goes red-faced, and he stomps at 1.0× speed to the wall and pounds it (10/s). Every hit on the wall shakes the camera. He now takes +25% damage because his belly is exposed and he's out of breath.

How to beat Big Bruno, Ogre Chief

Pikeman (bonus vs giant, stops the shockwave cheese), Crossbow Tower for steady DPS, Balcony Archers to pop tossed goblins, and Keep Catapult splash on the escorts. Knights are weak, since Giant can't be knocked back.

Best counters: Crossbow Tower and Pikeman.

Also works: Balcony Archers, Keep Catapult, Boiling Oil, Pyromancer, Cryomancer, Stormcaller and Ranger.

Not great against it: Knight.

  • It is a boss with three phases. Watch for the big warning signs before each attack.
  • Giants are too big to knock back.
  • It wears no armor, so plain arrows do full damage.

Big Bruno, Ogre Chief in the campaign

On Normal you'll face one Big Bruno, Ogre Chief over 1 day, spread across 1 wave. Harder difficulty levels send more of them, with more health; Easy sends fewer.

What it looks like

A huge, pear-shaped, sky-blue-grey ogre with a single-tooth underbite, a tiny horned helmet perched on a big head, a patched kilt made from a picnic blanket, and a bucket full of goblins strapped to his back. Gag: a bird's nest lives in his hair, and the bird chirps angrily at every slam. On the final poof, the bird flies off holding his helmet.

The elite version

"Double Bucket" means tosses come in pairs, and slam shockwaves travel 450 px.
