What it does

A wooden catapult wheeled in by 2 goblins. It stops at a standoff of 950 px (far right, at the edge of plain arrow range) and lobs boulders. Telegraph: the arm cranks back (1.5 s), and the goblins cover their ears. Every third shot targets a defender tower instead of the wall (it disables the slot for 2 s, with the defender dizzy).

How to beat Grumble Catapult

Knight (charges out and bonks it, with a canon bonus), Keep Catapult (counter-battery), Crossbow Tower (long range), Stormcaller, and Ranger. Arrows have to use max-arc lobs.

Best counters: Knight.

Also works: Crossbow Tower, Keep Catapult, Pyromancer, Stormcaller, Footman, Ranger and Paladin.

Not great against it: Boiling Oil.

  • Siege foes move slowly but hit the wall very hard. Stop them before they arrive.
  • It stops and attacks from far away, which makes it a still, easy target.

Grumble Catapult in the campaign

On Normal you'll face about 18 Grumble Catapults over 10 days, spread across 13 waves. The biggest crowd comes on Day 21, with 4 of them. Harder difficulty levels send more of them, with more health; Easy sends fewer.

What it looks like

A rickety wood catapult patched with pots and pans, with a goblin skull-and-crossbones flag that's actually a goblin face sticking its tongue out, and two goblins in hard hats. Gag: sometimes (1 in 10 shots) a goblin gets launched instead of the boulder, flails through the air, and lands as a free grunt.

The elite version

A standoff of 1,150 px, and its boulders split into 3 on impact.
