What it does

A fragile walker. Revive: the first time it hits 0 HP it collapses into a bone pile (targetable, 6 HP), then after 3 s reassembles at 50% HP. Holy damage, blunt damage on the pile, or a kill by holy or blunt prevents the revive.

How to beat Rattlebones

Cleric, Paladin, Keep Catapult (blunt smashes piles), Footman, and archers finishing the pile.

Best counters: Keep Catapult, Sunbell Cleric and Paladin.

Also works: Balcony Archers, Boiling Oil, Pyromancer, Stormcaller, Footman and Knight.

  • Undead foes take 50% more damage from holy light.
  • It wears no armor, so plain arrows do full damage.

Rattlebones in the campaign

On Normal you'll face about 106 Rattlebones over 5 days, spread across 8 waves. The biggest crowd comes on Day 26, with 28 of them. Harder difficulty levels send more of them, with more health; Easy sends fewer.

What it looks like

A cartoon skeleton with an oversized round skull, a goblin-shaped jaw with a snaggletooth, a rusty pot helmet, and a wooden spoon for a sword. It's bone-white with purple joint glow. Gag: when it reassembles, it sometimes puts its skull on backwards and walks the wrong way for a moment.

The elite version

It revives twice and wears a tricorn hat.
